History - Road Construction
Our access road has been a challenge, but has evolved, into the perfect approach to the chalet from the main road. It is over 500m in length, and unfortunately it has been an impediment to business. "IN THE BEGINNING" there was a snare trail, that wound its way from Hefferan's turn to well up Pine Tree road...
... then Tommy Jesso, Brian Cormier and myself cut this "road?", and "charged" an excavator from Ashly B. on 90 day terms and ....
... there was "the Beginning" of a "road".... then we paid off the bill, and charged more to get the entire road topped, and take out the second turn.
( sorry I wasn't PhotoShop Friendly" at that time.) Then....
... because, rear wheel drive vehicles, without weight and studds, found it very difficult to climb this section, we widened the bottom turn and cut the corner off to allow more continuous approach speed. Front wheel drives (with "tires), never have had a problem. It was better but lame tires and inexperienced drivers, still left me shovelling and "plucking", from time to time...then... my old friend Mr. Pat Hefferan, passed away. Mr. Hefferan was an 80 year old man who live in the small cabin above. When I first starting driving up that old road I stopped to talk to Pat. I asked him very directly if he had any concerns with the ski hill idea, and he said, "My son, if you can make a dollar at it, have at 'er. We shared many a chat after that day.
...His equally friendly nephew Jackie, decided to tear down the old cabin. He allowed me to cross the small piece of private land. then...
...the perfect approach was available. We roughed the new road in....
...now we need to finish this road before snow starts accumulating.
Picture this...
...and it's 5 days and $5000 away.
...Note the elimination of nearly all turn in the new road, from the ariel photo above ( see highlighted area). Also take note of a section of the subdivision road visible in the top of the circle, running to the right.
